Connector & Endpoint System Integration Scalability
The system:inmation Connector is the application exchanging data with multiple systems and interfaces, typically residing on a remote location. Depending on the scale of the architecture and data sources to be integrated, it can be one or many Connectors per site. Integrating a new site to the enterprise system is only a matter of adding more Connectors to the overall architecture.


Network Security
system:inmation respects the mandatory need for a distributed and secure network architecture, by fully supporting firewall protection on each network level involved, be it on the individual site, or on the enterprise network layer. The communication of system:inmation‘s main components relies on true single TCP port connections, thus shielding away remote integration hassles, such as remote DCOM configuration.


Core & Computing Scalability
system:inmation's Core Service controls the underlying architecture of Connector instances. It distributes configurational changes, processes incoming data and creates reflective images of the data in the Repository, such as the device configuration data, event streams or real-time measurements. To allow for very large systems or redundancy, system:inmation supports multiple, parallel Cores.


Central Repository
All data of system:inmation, including data from the field, but also internal system monitoring, statistics and logs, is stored in the central repository, which serves also as the unique configuration interface of the entire system. To be completely independent from the individual data source and flexible to reflect any given structures, a schema-free open database is used. system:inmation consolidates all data into one central Namespace, that can be easily accessed by any modern corporate IT. To support very large systems the database supports clustering and redundancy to increase the storage capability to any level required.

Remote Data
​As it was explained above, one distinct system:inmation may comprise any number of remote Connectors, which themselves may be connected to any number of endpoint servers.


Core Service​
The inmation Core processes all incoming data, and integrates with the central MongoDB instance that acts as routing service for the distributed MongoDB architecture, which itself can be scaled to nearly whatever extent and easily be set up for very low maintenance and headache-free data replication. Using MongoDB’s open JSON/BSON-based data interfaces, system:inmation lets you touch live data as it is created or updated. No secrets, no proprietary formats stand in your way to use the data for any application.


Operating System Support
​MongoDB is platform-independent and supports a large variety of operating systems, including MS Windows and different Linux distributions, such as Ubuntu, Fedora or Debian. In the most interesting scenario this openness requires no more license fees to be paid for a cluster of data stores managing up to Petabytes of process data. This system is created out of moderately resourced (virtual) machines instead requiring immense scale-up capabilities.


Simple, scalable Data Redundancy​
MongoDB handles redundancy via so called Replica Sets. Multiple machine instances are mirroring each other. All fail-over and back-to-normal processes are handled in a straight-forward manner, which results in a low-maintenance, high-reliability system.


Data Sharding (Clustering)
​Very large data collections (which are easily created with historical process data), can be distributed over different shards. The MongoDB system handles the logic and lets the collection appear as one, while multiple CPU’s work together in the background, ensuring fast data retrieval.


Enterprise Data Store​
Using the replication and sharding features of the MongoDB Repository, it takes very little effort to maintain and extent a central data store for all types of analytical requirements, accessing time series and event data in any context and with high performance. system:inmation overcomes many limitations of the past, relating to proprietary data stores and/or monstrous, hard-to-manage SQL installations.
